This is by no means an exhaustive glossary of terms. Consider it a starting point. Any additions, modifications and suggestions to other terms, formulas, etc. that the experts among you may feel are essential to include, please mention in the comments below and we will add as needed.

Please be clear and concise and cite your resource, if available, for any additional terms.

Astable Multivibrator – An astable multivibrator is also known as a free-running multivibrator. It is called free-running because it alternates between two different output voltage levels during the time it is on. ecstudiosystems.com

Alternator – a device that converts mechanical energy into AC electrical energy.

Control Circuit – A control circuit is a special type of circuit used to control the operation of a completely separate power circuit. c03.apogee.net

Dynamo – a machine for converting mechanical energy into electrical energy; a generator.

Electric motor – converts electricity into mechanical energy.

Generator – a mechanical device which converts mechanical energy to either AC or DC electrical energy; a dynamo.

Commutator – a mechanical rotating switch, or commutator, that connects the rotor coil to the stationary output terminals through carbon brushes. This commutator reverses the connections at the two instants in each rotation when the rate of change of flux in the coil is zero—i.e., when the enclosed flux is maximum (positive) or minimum (negative). www.britannica.com

Magnetic field – area around a magnet in which the effect of magnetism is felt.

Magnetic flux – is defined as the number of magnetic field lines passing through a given closed surface.

Pulser – The pulser circuit generates electrical impulses that are applied to a transducer causing the transducer to emit an ultrasound pulse. imaginant.com

Rotor – The rotor refers to the rotating part of an electric motor or generator. It is the component that spins or rotates within the machine. The rotor can be either wound or contain permanent magnets.

Stator – The stationary component found in electric motors and generators. It consists of a laminated core and coils of insulated wire known as the windings. When alternating current is applied to a stator, it creates a rotating magnetic field.

Zero-point energy/ vacuum energy – lowest quantized energy level of a quantum mechanical system
